I’m extremely disappointed

How could you substitute American Special K for Canadian Special K.

I am disappointed in the "new" Special K. I regularly eat Special K, it is my breakfast cereal of choice. I like it so much that when I travel to the States for the winter, I take Canadian Special K with me - I always knew that it was different and better than the American style product.

Can you imagine how I felt to purchase the new box of Special K original - only to discover it was American Special K - produced in the States, and upon comparison of the nutrition facts, it is definitely inferior to the previous, Canadian product - for a smaller serving size, more calories, more sodium, more carbohydrates, no vitamin E - no magnesium, no zinc no manganese - did you think we wouldn't notice?

I do not think I will buy the product again.

I have only one question, is there any chance you will go back to producing the Canadian style Special K.

I look forward to hearing your comments.

  • I am sorry for your disappointment, Anne! We had minutely conducted consumer research and trial of the new recipe, then the result had revealed that consumers like the new recipe which is similar to the American Special K. I am glad you shared your opinion with us, because from time to time we take a tally of votes from our fans for product changes and I will be sure to put your request in to have the former recipe in production once again. However, since it is a recent change, there aren't plans to reintroduce the recipe.
    • I would re think your plans on not reintroducing THE ORIGINAL special k You have lost alot of loyal consumers Or does that not matter to a company as big as yours? I have been a loyal consumer for over forty years I too purchased what i thought was the original special k and was totally disgusted with the taste and the wasted money spent If it ain't broke don't fix it!

I have the exact same concern. Special k is my cereal of choice too. I was shocked to open up a new box this week only to find the HUGE change. I did try it but it is awful! I want my money back. Please consider bringing back the old recipe. Tammy C. - New Brunswick

I agree! This new recipe is terrible in both texture and taste! We enjoyed the simple light cereal that was the Original Special K. Sure, make a new recipe, but leave the old one - why change something so simple that has done well for many years? This new recipe is hard, dry, seems more sugary and now tastes like so many other cereals that you can buy (including some of those other special k recipes that we've never liked). We can say we will not be purchasing Special K in the future, unless it goes back to the Original recipe. I heard that this recipe is the same one that has been used in the US and now has more calories, carbs and sugar? Is that true?

  • I am really sorry that you do not like the change made to that product, Sandra! The new recipe of our Special K is now going to be the same in Canada and in the US, with the exception of fortification. I will be sure to inform the Marketing Department that you would like to be able to find the old recipe on the Market. Thank you for sharing your concern with us.

  • Thank you for your inquiry, Anne! Certainly not everybody likes the change of the Special K recipe but I have also been pleased to notice that consumers like the familiar soft texture, the new bigger, crunchier flakes, and that it isn't too sweet. Thank you for being part of the Kellogg Family!

The "new recipe" for Special K is AWFUL, NOT GOOD, BAD. it taste the same as the USA version which we can never buy on holidays. We bring our own with us.
My family has been eating Special K (approx, 2 x 600 kg) boxes a week for over 40 years. Now my kids only eat Special K, but refuse to eat the new version. Unless you go back to the ACTUAL ORIGINAL CANADIAN RECIPE we will no longer be buying any Kelloggs brand cereals.

Hi, Darold, thanks for posting. So sorry to hear our Special K* cereal no longer delights your family and I am more than happy to include your comments in my next report. It is important that we know what our fans like and dislike about our foods and your feedback is helpful and provides direction on ways we can enhance it in the future. We’re glad you took the time to share your opinion and include the opinions of those around you as well. Thank you for being a member of Kellogg Community!
    • It`s been 2 years and we still haven't found a cereal to replace our Special K. We constantly look at the Special K packaging or similar hoping that the Canadian version is back to no avail. We haven't tried any other Kellogg`s product since. I don`t understand how a product so successful for so many years is just taken off the shelf. It can't be that hard to produce. You have dozen`s of cereals why not stick to 1 that sold well in Canada? We must have a much healthier lifestyle in Canada and would really appreciate the healthier version of Special K to come back
      Thanks

Also very disappointed! Just had some of the New Recipe Special K cereal and realized it's the same as the American Special K. Has anyone else noticed how gritty it is??!! Very hard on the teeth. I'm not able to eat anymore of it. Was my go-to cereal.
If you could keep the large flake look and go back to the Canadian recipe, that would be great.

I didn't even know there was a new recipe. I've been loving the original recipe for 48 years. It's one of only two cereals that I eat. Yesterday I bought a new box and when I poured it into my bowl it was different. I checked the box and it indeed says "original" in large letters. Nice try Kelloggs. Why would you print that on the box when it is obviously not the original recipe. Thanks for tricking me. I didn't notice the "new recipe" sign in the upper corner of the box when I bought it. This new stuff is just like the other crappy stuff you make with the flavoured versions. Hard to believe I won't be eating Special K anymore. It's been such a staple forever. The new one has hard bits in it and it tastes like a sugar bowl. I suppose someone likes it that way but I sure don't. I had two bowls of it, just to give it a fair chance, but the rest is going in the dog's bowl. What a total drag.

My son (who will not eat sugar cereal) has always chosen special K as is favorite...we were out of cereal for a few days, so when I came home with a box I thought he would be excited. Yay me!! He immediately poured a bowl and then said "I don't know where you bought that, but it is disgusting!". I'm now stuck with a family sized box of $7.20 cereal no one likes :(
Please consider going back to the original recipe!!

I was wondering what happened to my special K. I used to love it for snacks as well, but the last few times, I haven't been as keen on it. It was special, it was different than other cereals. I am not happy either :( I will probably change cereals or go back to fruit and yogurt.

  • I’m disappointed.
    1
I hate to pile on, but add myself and 3 friends. Each of us ate Special K Original as our favourite cereal, when I bought the box of the 'new recipe' (which, no, I didn't notice, as I buy staples on automatic) the minute I took the first spoonful, I thought it must have been left on the loading dock next to something which ruined the taste, then I read, with dismay, the 'new recipe'. I did finish the bowl, because I'd never waste milk. The 3 friends didn't want it, they hate the changes too, so I gave it to the birds. I'm saddened, it was the main cereal I've eaten for as long as I can remember, but I'll never get it again. So that's 4 regulars lost.

  • I’m Tired of big companies making changes that no one likes
To be honest the CEO should take note that this product should be changed back. I thought I had a mistake and the factory put a different cereal in my box. Corporations try to cut costs and streamline but this message is to the CEO Carol Stewart you made a big mistake allowing this change. This is another product from the Kellogg's family I will never buy again.

To the shareholders be prepared for lower returns with poor business decisions like this one. Really interesting I was wondering why Special K was on sale now I know because the product is not Special K, it's something k. Maybe you should talk to Heinz, they have a Canadian version of ketchup and if it ever changes bye bye Canadian market.

If Kellogg's thought the marketplace was changing for breakfast cereals you are now going to lose even more market share because of this terrible product that really looks like corn flakes. From coast to coast here comes the special k Canadian boycott.

Also it now states on the box imported for Kellogg's Canada. What country is special k made in? Not going to support Canadian jobs maybe it's time to shift buying to local made products.

To all my fellow Canadians on this post the CEO for Canada is Carol Stewart and John Bryant is the overall CEO for Kellogg's

I agree with all the comments. The flakes are much bigger, more like corn flakes. They have hard nubbly bits that I don't like which is why'd don't eat the flavoured ones. The "old" version is snappy, small & doesn't get soggy so quickly.
Monitoring these comments is fine but if nothing is done or we don't hear from the head office, what is the point? At least Yolande directed her answers to the comments. Ivy seemed to repeat the same answer in each, not even paying attention to the persons comments. We know some people don't care but you could at least show it a little!

Canadians are much more health conscious of healthy foods.
There is not near the same healthy ingredients any more.
I may not be able to do much about it, but I can and have stopped buying Kellogg's products for near 2 years now, since the change.
Special K was our family cereal growing up, it was my family cereal for my kids. We couldn't buy it on our trips to the USA and now we all don't eat Kellogg's at home.

I have purchased it twice but I cannot get used to it. It is nothing like the original that I have been enjoying for so many years. My husband and I as well loved our special K, when i bought a box i didn't notice it said new recipe on the box, so when it did not taste right. I new there was something wrong. We do not like the taste of this new recipe and we used to buy a lot of Special K, I used to buy a box or two every month since the new recipe has come out i have not bought any. We now buy Rice Krispie but why should we have to. Special K was fine the way it was you screwed with perfection. You make something good and made it bad, Kellogg's should do a survey in Canada and ask who likes the new recipe, I guarantee that 90 % of your once customer are not any more. Have you notice that your sales for special K have dropped. There are a lot more dissatisfied customers then who post here. You lost my sales and many more. Please bring back our perfect cereal, special K was just that special.

  • I travelled all over the world with my Canadian Special K. I'm sure I would not have graduated from medical school without it. I couldn't sleep without a bowl before bed of those golden, perfectly crispy flakes. The low sugar content helped me feel confident that I was making good food choices. When I bit into a bite of the deceptive New concoction, I thought it was so gross I didn't finish it. I had to throw out the box because nobody else would eat it. I would never buy the new formula again. If a company is going to sell to Canada it ought to respect our food sensibilities and choices.

I still miss the traditional Special K every night. Please bring it back!!

    • Over 4 years ago I started eating vegan. Giving up my Special K breakfast was the hardest part. Two days ago I decided to modify my diet, first thing I did was go buy a large box of Special K, I was so excited. At first I couldn't figure out what was different, had it been that long that I forgot what they looked and tasted like? They just weren't the same. Now I know, this is not the same cereal I gave up 4 years ago. What a disappointment, all this time I've been craving something that didn't even exsist anymore. I had eaten the same cereal for years and no other. It's the only one for me. Now I have no breakfast options other than fruit. What a disappointment. Will it ever come back or should I just forget about it and move on?

I miss the original Special K too. Those hard bits in the new version hurt when you bite on them, and get stuck in my molars. Does Kellogg's even have a quality control department??? I received an email from Kellogg's stating that they will NOT be returning to the old recipe that we all love so much It's too bad for them. I can imagine how many people who have not said said anything about not liking this new recipe, we are merely a few of us here.
Kellogg's doesn't appreciate what makes their customers happy, All these posts wanting our kelloggs back to the way it was, They have no ears to hear us,we might as well be flapping are lips in the wind. It was once said "the customer are always right" oh well, they do not what are few cents which is what it is to them but one day they will wake up to say maybe they should of listened to there customers. Now my lips are flapping in the wind.
